The brief
The Musée de la Vie romantique is housed in a 19th-century mansion at the end of a cobbled, tree-lined lane in the 9th arrondissement. Barely visible from the street, it is often found almost by chance. The project imagines its entrance signage: a sign readable from the pavement, true to the spirit of the place.
Intentions
- Being seen from the street
- Evoking the 19th century without pastiche
- A lace of dots and flowers
- Black and white, for legibility
The design approach
A black background, a serif typeface with 19th-century accents and dotted floral ornaments, like embroidery or lace: the sign evokes Romanticism without pastiche. Applied to the gate and the entrance pillars, it draws the eye from the street and hints at the house and garden hidden behind.
